Welcome to AskUncleGary.com, an independent publication launched in 2025 by Gary Domasin, an advice columnist and contributing writer to SoCalMag.com, educator, and supportive uncle you wish you had.

Got a question, a dilemma, or just in need of some straight talk? Going through a messy breakup? Career pivots? Looking to reinvent yourself at 65? This isn't therapy or tough love. It's lived wisdom, shared with honesty and heart.

Who is Uncle Gary?

Gary Domasin brings over five decades of hands-on human experience to every question he answers.

Raised on Hollywood backlots in the 1960s, Gary developed an early and acute understanding of human behavior, performance, and the psychology behind how people present themselves to the world. He trained as a Broadway dancer, later becoming a sought-after fitness coach to high-profile clients including Tim Curry and Jennifer Aniston, work that demanded not just physical expertise, but a deep, practical understanding of motivation, discipline, and personal transformation.

As a licensed hypnotherapist, Gary operated a thriving private practice in Long Beach, California, providing him with formal, clinical training in the subconscious patterns that drive human behavior, decision-making, and self-sabotage. That experience, combined with a long career in film and television working intimately with people across all walks of life, gave Gary a rare ability to cut through noise, identify root issues, and offer a perspective that is direct, grounded, and actionable.

He is not a licensed therapist, and Ask Uncle Gary is not a substitute for professional mental health care. What Gary offers is something different and often harder to find: seasoned, honest, cross-disciplinary insight from someone who has navigated an extraordinary range in life and work, and who applies that experience with both rigor and discretion.

Gary is a contributing writer for SoCalMag.com, where Ask Uncle Gary offers clarity without clichés, blending humor, experience, and real-world perspective. He has been an adjunct faculty member at USC’s School of Dramatic Arts since 2016 and is a hair stylist at Salon Aguayo in Pasadena, CA.
